1962 - 1972 The groundwork was laid, one plants, one waters, and God always gives the increase. This decade at Mt. Olive saw significant growth as a congregation. Pastors now began to stay for longer periods of time, which proved to be very valuable and important for continued growth. Rev. Norman Hicks pastored the church for 6 years, and following his resignation in 1967 Rev. Cletus Masterson assumed the pastorate and pastored for the next 10 years. Both Rev. Hicks and Rev. Masterson had outstanding leadership abilities, which resulted in great strides in the Mt. Olive Church growth A parsonage was purchased in 1964. This is the first time the church was able to furnish living quarters for their pastor. It was the adjoining property to the church facing Plum St. The church membership increased, as did their vision. The vision of relocating for this congregation from the small limited facility in the West End of Newburgh to a location on Highway 261, north of downtown Newburgh, which at this time was not developed extensively. Land was purchased in 1969, and a new sanctuary was erected and dedicated in 1970. This proved to be a good move for the congregation, as Newburgh began to grow and expand all growth was north of the city, and the Ohio River was on the south. Mission emphasis enlarged, ministries to the youth, and music ministries flourished. There were teaching, reaching ministries available during this decade. Again the sanctuary was full for worship services. The old parsonage down in the West End of Newburgh was sold and a beautiful 3-bedroom brick parsonage was erected directly behind the church at 4366 Birch Drive in the Green Valley Sub-Division. There was new subdivisions springing up all over the area. Newburgh was one of the fastest growing towns in the state at this time. The church reported 107 members to the Freedom Association in 1972. Mt. Olive now could support a pastor on the field full time for the first time in its existence.

1972 - 1982 Until 1976, the church experienced a continued ministry to the community, active in local and foreign missions. A teaching ministry prevailed with members active in witnessing and worship services. The church flourished under the continued leadership of the same pastor. In 1976, Rev. Cletus Masterson resigned as pastor following a successful 10 years pastorate, leading this congregation through a relocating, and building program. The area was changing, people were moving into the area, and purchasing homes as rapidly as they could be erected. What an opportunity for church growth but unfortunately the church began to once again experience a change in leadership every year or so. A conflict arose over doctrinal points, which proved to be very detrimental to the church. People began to leave the church and join congregations elsewhere. In 1979, the church experienced a great exodus of members as doctrinal differences came to a climax and over 50 people left the church at one time. These were trying times for the faithful few left at Mt. Olive. Less than 30 dedicated General Baptist remained faithful to the church. . In 1982 after four different ministers leading the congregation, a former pastor, Rev. William H. Bullock, who had pastored the Mt. Olive General Baptist Church (1955-1959), again accepted the call to pastor the church.
